چکیده

Residential segregation is an explicitly spatial phenomenon that emerges from the interaction of many individuals and displays markedly different global patterns depending on specific socioeconomic contexts. This paper presents a generative model of socioeconomic segregation that reproduces regular macro-level patterns of the phenomenon through the specification of a minimal set of parameters that drive the agents’ behaviour. The purpose of these experiments is to provide insights about the emergence of certain types of segregation patterns that have been identified in many modern cities and measure the relation between these distinct outputs and the degree of segregation

Tipping and Residential Segregation: A Unified Schelling Model

This paper presents a Schelling-type checkerboard model of residential segregation formulated as a spatial game. It shows that although every agent prefers to live in a mixed-race neighborhood, complete segregation is observed almost all of the time. A concept of tipping is rigorously defined, which is crucial for understanding the dynamics of segregation. Complete segregation emerges and persi...

The Spatial Context of Residential Segregation

Residential segregation is defined in a variety of ways to address a common concern: to what extent do social groups reside in separate or distinct places. The spatial pattern of segregation varies widely across cities, and distinct spatial patterns can be generated by different mechanisms and have different consequences for residents and their communities. However, the methods commonly employe...

Spatial Measurement of Residential Segregation

Segregation measures are useful tools for the analysis of patterns, causes and effects of residential segregation. However, most of empirical segregation studies have employed nonspatial and global measures. In other words, the measures so far applied are unable to consider the spatial arrangement of population and to show how much each areal unit contributes to the segregation degree of the wh...

Spatial Boundaries and the Local Context of Residential Segregation

Spatial boundaries are a defining feature of a city’s social and spatial organization. Rivers, highways, and train tracks create excess distance between nearby locations and often mark social separation – they become dividing lines that are well known to residents. Qualitative studies are rich with insight about the local significance of boundaries, but they have been largely ignored in the qua...

Segregation patterns of an equidensity TiO2 ternary mixture in a conical fluidized bed: CFD and experimental study

In this study, an Eulerian-Eulerian multi-fluid model (MFM) was used to simulate the segregation pattern of a conical fluidized bed containing ternary mixtures of equidensity TiO2‌ particles. Experimental 'freeze–sieving' method was employed to determine the axial mass fraction profiles of the different-sized particles, and validate the simulation results. The profiles of mass fraction for larg...
